Above is why not to send mails at this time of morning, the sentence
didn't make any sense...

Anyway, the reason I asked is that I have seen this recently and
resolved it... The problem is due to the generic IDE driver grabbing the
channel before the SATA driver... I'm waiting to hear back if this
'Legacy' working is configurable in the bios config, however, tagging
'ide0=noprobe' onto the end of the kernel... line in grub.conf worked
around this problem for me...
