Compiling a new Kernel

I have recently installed TAO-Linux for the first time having been using 
RedHat/Fedora before.
I wanted to compile a new kernel for this new installation and I did; using 
kernel 2.4.32.  I rebooted the system and it came up but with lots of 
errors. It sat there and finally died. I guess a panic attack.  I wish I 
could be more specific but I never made note of the errors in particular.

What I need to know is - how does one compile and install a new kernel in 
TAO-Linux.  Is it the same as Fedora-core4?  Or are there difference in the 
way it is installed. I am thinking of the grub.conf file for one.

Bottom line - do I have to make changes in the way I  compile and install a 
new kernel in TAO-Linux.
