Several points:
- This doesn't happen with a default install of mysql-server (tested
here)
- This does happen on my own mysql server, where I had secured it ages
ago
- Even though it says 'failed', mysql does actually start

For now, I'm not sure if I should actually mess w/ the mysql packages. 
I'll think some more on it, but my first inclination is to let this one
go, since it doesn't affect default installs.
