There isn't much one (AFAIK). The Fedora Core 1 2.4-series kernel does
have NPTL, but i remember that being 2.4.22-level too.

I've read/heard that if one renames the /lib/tls to be something else,
the vanilla kernel would work, but i have NOT tested this and NOT even
sure if that doesn't have any other side effects. That should
efectively disable the NTPL tho.

Another, for single commands, would be using

LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 /path/to/some/command

Maybe even exporting that to ENV globally would do some effects. I
really don't know and don't even want to know. I am pretty committed
tho this source base and actually quiote happy with it too.

If i'd need something vanilla, i'd take the modutils (the hybrid one)
modutils-2.4.26-15.src.rpm and use vanilla 2.6-series. I don't (at
least now) remember Tao Linux needing anyhting else to be able to use
2.4/2.6 hybrid setup.

Be warned that i do remember that when one does have this modutils
installed, installing NEW 2.4-series kernel would result from static
versions to be included to new initrd, so manual fixing or --force
installing the original modutils for 2.4-kernel install, would be
required.

One _ALWAYS_ leaves the last working kernel intact anyway :)


Now, when i think it more, i think the /sys must be created for sysfs.
There might be something else too what i don't really remember now ...
at least /etc/modprobe.conf would be there (used with 2.6).

So summarizing: ANY 2.6-series kernel does have NPTL, but those
2.4-series that does, are rare items :)

Then again, if there is some special patch/feature you need for usage
of vanilla 2.4-series, i am always open for listening and maybe even
merging it in (if that wouldn't exceed my skills which are limited
withing kernel-land).

The delayed U3-release (for archs i maintain, like x86-64, ia64, s390,
s390x) does already have bunch of enhancement in it's kernel which are
unique to those Tao Linux archs.

- 3ware 9500-series driver (including installation support)
- forcedeth support (tested only with 10/100 NForce3 chipset)
- Marvel/3x940 support
- XFS (not supported for installation)
- GFS (Gloobal Filesystem) included in base release
- few minor kernel fixes that redhat will catch up later
- something else that i don't remember now :P

Most of those being _my_ needs so i need those and therefor need to
support those too .....
