Do you actually have some SATA disk connected to the Sil controller ?  
Does it happen to be a Hitachi disk ? I have some problem with a Tyan
S2882 which also has a Sil3114 onboard and a 160Gb Hitachi disk, while 
a 120Gb Maxtor disk works fine, more details here:
