Correct, when the box was running the kernel from U3 install it wasn't
hanging. It does seem to be related to activity though. The box has been
idling since yesterday afternoon and is still running as it should.

Some other weird thing I noticed is that it takes the new kernel 21-27.301
(and 300) a long time to bring up localhost and the ethernet device.
Several seconds longer than on any of the other boxes.

Indeed most devices are giving me problems running the old kernel with
noapic, cdrom (ide?) access is unstable, neither of the nics will work and
probably I'll run into more stuff.

I'll try to get kernel 2.6 running on the box and see how that works.
Maybe a 2.6 kernel from Fedora FC3 will work (a plain vanilla kernel
wouldn't so far).

Alternatively I can just plug in two additional nics but that will leave
me without any empty pci slot and probably irq conflicts (teh box will
have two ISDN cards and the 3Ware 9500 installed).
