Can't compile ftape 4.03+ under RH7.3 / kernel 2.4.20-20.7

Version of FTAPE: 4.03 or better (4.03, 4.04, and 4.04a)
Kernel Version: 2.4.20-20.7 (RedHat 7.3)
Hardware:
Gigabyte GA-B7 PCI mainboard
Intel Celeron 333 CPU
256MB RAM
Standard floppy controller
Colorado Jumbo 250 internal floppy tape drive (QIC-80)

FTAPE will not compile; receiving numerous (many dozens of) warnings
like the following:
