Thanks for your help, I have find an easier way to resolve my problem yesterday, an RPM package exist in the download section and the installation is fine ! But I have exactly the same problem than before I try to install Tarball (Ftape 4.x) version. I explain: I use Linux Red Hat 7.3 (Kernel 2.4.20) Pentium 233 Mhz MMX (i586 platform) Hewlett Packard Colorado T1000 Tape Drive (Connected on the Standard Floppy Controller - Intel 430TX Chipset MB) If I use the integrated Ftape version (2.09 I think) of the Kernel 2.4, the system doesn't recognize my tape drive. I try with the command "ftmt -f /dev/ftape status" to test the tape but I receive the error -> ftmt: /dev/ftape: no such device. I have also try with many other path like: /dev/qft0, /dev/zqft0, ... but the same result With the RPM package of Ftape 4.02 the problem persist... and I cannot install Ftape 4.04 from Tarball package. But I think if I can install Ftape 4.04 the problem will be the same at the end. My new question is where I can view the configuration (I/O, IRQ, ...) ? But the default installation should be set to use the standard floppy controller... And do you know if a tool exist to scan or probe a Floppy Tape in Linux to ensure me that tape is recognize ! It looks like those are required to compile the docs. check the readme or install files to see exactly what you need.
