I do indeed have the MCONFIG file pointing to the correct kernel source in /usr/src/linux
I only have ONE kernel source tree on this box.....
I have compiled the kernel a whole bunch of times to try and make this work.....
First I tried compiling with the parport drivers and modules built in to the kernel...then without....
Then with the ftape drivers built-in to the kernel...then again without.
There doesn't seem to be any way to compile the kernel with the trakker moduiles built-in....or else I would have tired that too.

I followed the instructions.....
cd /usr/src/linux
make clean
make menuconfig  { do my configuring here }
make dep

Then, as per the INSTALL file in the ftape distribution

cd /usr/src/ftape-4.4a
make distclean
make
make install

Then I continue to compile my kernel as normal.


When I do a 'make menuconfig' there is a section in the configurator to configure ftape....I just plug in the appropriate numbers.
I don't know how this part in 'make menuconfig' relates to fresh ftape source code.......perhaps this is where I'm screwing up.
Maybe I shouldn't touch the ftape section in 'make menuconfig' at all....I don't know.


Any help would be appreciated.
