Yes, it is best to turn it off (and remove the modules produced in 
the compiles before) as this is an old version of ftape (ftape-3).  
You may also try to play with the CONFIG_MODVERSIONS switch.  And 
make sure that everything is rebuilt correctly when you change the 
configuration.
