My backups use ftape with a Travan TR-3 drive, on a server which is
fairly active at the time, and average around 55 kbps.

Actually, I don't mind it taking that long - it's not adding much load
to the server, so I can run it through the day.

I always expected tape backup to be slow, so I never thought about
that... anyone getting faster results?
