My guess is that 's due to the fact of the memory video caching that xorg
drivers use as default.
I've got much better perfomance adding these lines to the lts.conf file:
X_OPTION_01 = "\"AccelMethod\" \"xaa\""
X_OPTION_02 = "\"XAANoOffscreenPixmaps\" \"True\""

These parameters are for intel video cards.
