i dont like #2, it would mean you cant just connect to any ssh server at
all. ubuntu and debian offer CK functionallity through sshd (sshd uses
CK for evenry X connection made simly to make things like ssh -X
user@server time-admin works correctly) ... 

if distros dont use such a setup i'm all for an optionl alternative
though, but that shouldnt require server side stuff ... its easy to
check for CK availabliy through rc.d scripts (thats why we invented them
first place) and the same goes for Xsession availabiltiy.

for me its always been important that you can use any sshd in your
network by setting LDM_SERVER to point the right machine and have it run
the default system Xsession there. any change we make to the setup
should still keep it working that way.
