Re: LTSP installation on Ubuntu server 18.04

The reason why I use the 2-NIC setup is to isolate my classroom/LAN from
the rest of the school which doesn't want to deal with Linux much less
LTSP. With the 2-nic setup I don't have to request any support from the
school/district tech people. If I did I doubt my system would be tolerated
(with the current tech-approach to education in which I work).

The 2-nic setup makes it so that only my teacher computer is seen on the
WAN. As I understand it, if I used the 1-NIC setup, all the computers in
the building would try to PXE-boot from my computer: this happened a few
years ago when I forgot to comment-out the specific proxy-mode line in
dnsmasq during an extended troubleshooting session several years back. I
imagine there's some way to still use proxy mode and only having a specific
set of computers boot from the machine. With the 2-NIC setup, to the school
WAN it only looks like they are dealing with 1 desktop (albeit linux) that
makes a lot request to the internet.

Of course I've read the advantage of the 1 NIC setup in that it requires
less setup, but not heard discussed on a practical level the consequences
of the 1 vs the 2 NIC systems, especially as it pertains to the required
relationship with the WAN. Anyone?
