Thanks for the help Alkis... *At BusyBox prompt:* (initramfs) nbd-client 192.168.12.61 -N /opt/ltsp/amd64 /dev/nbd0 *Response is:* Negotiation: ..size = 1455MB bs=1024, sz=1526353920 bytes So this would indicate a DHCP configuration issue. That feels right - let me describe my DHCP setup a little more: In the above subnet I already have a DHCP server working (pfsense), in addition to have setup dnsmasq on the LTSP server. Have I understood correctly that I can set things up in this chrootless scenario so that the pfSense DHCP server can provide IP addresses for the clients and the LTSP server can provide the PXE boot (tftp?) parameters? I followed the howto as mentioned in my first post and I had an issue with dnsmasq not being able to work as "port 53 already in use by systemd-resolve:" I edited edit /etc/systemd/resolved.conf to prevent it from being DNS server as per here: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/304050/how-to-avoid-conflicts-between-dnsmasq-and-systemd-resolved So far I didn't edit the /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf file on the server at all for this chrootless setup. Everything in there is wrong for my subnet and architecture - Do I need to setup that file properly for the chrootless scenario? If so how come no mention of that in the howto??
