Note that no code was added to ltsp that would break gnome from 16.04 to
18.04.
So if gnome was working fine for you, you can continue using it.
We recommend mate because it doesn't require opengl-capable cards, like
gnome does. So it's much faster on thin clients. And a lot lighter on RAM.
Although I doubt you were using ubuntu-desktop with gnome with thin
clients; maybe you meant ltsp fat clients or you meant gnome-flashback,
not normal gnome3 which is rather heavier and slower than mate.
