Problem with kernel 2.4.x upgrade

Hi,

I have a problem when upgrading tomsrtbt 2.0.103 to kernel 2.4.19
(needed for proper USB support).

The kernel was built on the same host but not from a booted tomsrtbt.
Every other step (unpack.s, ...) was done on a booted tomsrtbt.

The new kernel image is not able the find the root FS and stops
with a message similar to:

VFS: unable to find root fs at block 867

However, the block adress 867 is the same as on the unmodified 2.0.103
tomsrtbt although my 2.4.19 kernel is much smaller (~600KiB) compared
to the 2.2.20ext3 kernel (~800KiB).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

/Holger
