...plus $30 shipping and handling! :-)

Good find! The Intersil ICL3232CB (@ $1.67 from Arrow) is a direct
replacement for Digikey's $5.63 LTC1386CS, a $4 savings. What's up with
that!?

However, once you add in all the connectors, resistors, header pins,
switches, etc., we're still closer to $18 in components...still not a bad
deal. In 100's, the price is likely to drop to under $15 per board
including making the PCBs.

I'm guessing that PCB assembly NRE + per-board assembly costs will add
another ~$10 per board, quantity 100. Grand total, ~$25 per board
assembled plus misc. connectors. This ignores someone's labor costs for
ordering parts and making up a "parts kit" for the assembly house.

Does anyone see any holes in my reasoning? So who's ready to tkae this
on! :-) I'll buy some!

But we're getting ahead of ourselves, let's see how Patrick makes out this
weekend. Keep us posted...

(Patrick: Remember that you can "borrow" the crystal from your existing
daughterboard!)

Best regards,

Bruce
