Reliable firmware

Hi all, Is this list still active?

If so, does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable version of
firmware to use?

I set one of these up at my parents house, to firewall their PC so I
can cut down on those emergency calls when their windows system gets
hacked, and also to allow me to get access via an access point I put
behind it. It worked in that configuration. But, after using it for
a while, it would stop responding until I power cycled it.

Did this project produce any alternate firmwares? All I really need
is reliability, and SSH access into it so I can modify the iptables
config. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
