Patience is underdeveloped in my character.... 

Sorry, allow me to re-rephrase the point: 
while computer users don't want to spend a lot of money on computer software,
my wild guess is that if you compare Macintosh users, Windows users, and 
Linux users (desktop use only), the Mac Mates will spend most money on software
and the Penguin people least with the Windows Weenies in between. Windows has
the added advantage of having a huge user base. 

Now if the size of the market in (Euro)dollars for commercial Linux is least, 
what are commercial software vendors most likely to invest in?

Yes, I guess next year should see an increase of Linux desktop in the public
sector (government, education).
