Try pressing down on the wheel.

I've been using middle button paste for 10 years with a variety of mice. 
First using a Sun optical mouse (those were horrible) up to the present 
day with one of those "excellent red-light wheel mouses" from Logitech. 
Even Microsoft's optical wheel mouse is a three button mouse, so you 
could consider three button mice to be the industry standard.

It's too bad that Windows doesn't take advantage of the middle button 
for pasting functions yet, because it is much faster to paste with the 
mouse alone than it is to switch back and forth between the mouse and 
keyboard. Especially so with a PC style keyboard with all the meta keys 
in the wrong place so that you have to move your hand off the home row 
to hit ctrl-c/ctrl-v.
