Creating desktop "shortcuts" in gnome

Hi there,

I am really battling to get short-cuts created in gnome. I right click
and choose create new launcher. One needs to get the command absolutely
right the first time as once the launcher is created I cannot seem to
edit the command again. I can change the icon and permissions but that
it. So its quite annoying if one makes a mistake when creating the
"shortcut".

Another annoyance for me is that nautalis does not automatically refresh
its folder/file list when a file is added to current folder.
