I don't know about KDE or Gnoem except that they eat up CPU cycles and RAM.

Did you notice how sometimes the man page ends by saying that you really
should be reading the info document, and when you fire up info you get 
the same information. (GNU zealots sometimes resemble Jehovah's Witnesses)
