Our office is not unusual in that it sends out notices that the stand-by 
generators are to be tested, and would everybody please shut down 
vulnerable servers NOW.  Linux is a bugger to shutdown if the version 
doesn't support the hardware shutdown process, and every box appears to 
work differently.

Windows shuts down exactly as a box should.

This is a Linux annoyance.
