You can have any app you want in slackware as long as the src is available.
This might sound annoying, but I developed a tendency to compile src *anyway*.
On most apps a simple ./configure && make && checkinstall -S will do fine,
plus I get all the ./configure options I want (in xine for example) plus I get
all the CPU optimizations for my AthlonXP I want. My Slackware hums like a
racing car. Ok, that might be the IBM disk ;)

About KDE: I used to be a die hard Gnome fan despite Gnome getting worse with
every version since they started Gnome2 (haven't tried 2.4 yet tho, afraid of
upgrading...). But recently I installed KDE3.1.2 to help a newbie friend with
setup and found myself rising an eyebrow.
On my AthlonXP 1800+@1533MHz and Radeon9700 this thing is surprisingly fast.
Don't know how it behaves when it has been used and upgraded and extended for
a while, but for now I seriously consider switching, alone to get rid of that
GODFORSAKEN sorry excuse for a file manager called Nautilus.
