I do read what he writes.  Usually his rants against the OSI and anyone
else that doesn't follow the FSF way.  Yes, RMS has said that you should
make money - as wages - software shouldn't be sold.  You are correct
though, if it wasn't for him a lot of this wouldn't have happened.
