Ongoing test isn't shown in selftest protocol

Hello!

I installed a new hard disc in PC and integrated in my
SmartMonTools-Script, which cyclically performs an extended test over
all my hard discs. After some confusion why my script isn't working
correctly any more I found out, that when a start a test it isn't shown
"In progress".

An detailed explanation of my experiment to figure the problem:

I'm starting a new test on my hard disc:
smartctl -t long /dev/sda

Then I check if the test in in progress:
smartctl -l selftest /dev/sda

The result is:
  smartctl 6.2 2013-04-20 r3812 [i686-linux-3.11.0-12-generic] (local build)

As you can see, no test is in progress. But this is wrong. Only one old
(completed) test is shown. When I trigger the test again:
smartctl -t long /dev/sda

I get the following result:
=== START OF OFFLINE IMMEDIATE AND SELF-TEST SECTION ===
Can't start self-test without aborting current test (90% remaining),
add '-t force' option to override, or run 'smartctl -X' to abort test.

It looks like, the test is ongoing, but it it isn't shown in progress
when a do an "smartctl -l selftest". After some time, the triggered test
is correctly shown in the log:

# 2 Short offline Completed without error 00% 169 -

To fix the error I also tried an "smartctl -l xselftest /dev/sda". But
the result is the same.

I checked the behavior with two other hard drives (different model and
capacity). Triggering the test and then reading the error log shows me
correctly the "In progress" test:

# 2 Extended offline Completed without error 00% 25714 -

In the following I added the complete information of an "smartctl -a
