Hello,

It seems i read too fast :)
The command you suggested helped find the error: actually it's the same disk is found twice, once on /dev/sda and once on /dev/csmi0,0

smartd -q onecheck output:
smartd 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [i686-w64-mingw32-vista-sp2] (sf-6.2-1)

Opened configuration file C:/Program Files/smartmontools for Windows/bin/smartd.conf
Configuration file C:/Program Files/smartmontools for Windows/bin/smartd.conf was parsed, found DEVICESCAN, scanning devices
Device: /dev/sda, opened
Device: /dev/sda, TOSHIBA MK5061GSYN, S/N:33A3P5NKT, WWN:5-000039-4a2280ed7, FW:MH000K, 500 GB
Device: /dev/sda, found in smartd database: Toshiba 2.5" HDD MK..61GSY[N]
Device: /dev/sda, is SMART capable. Adding to "monitor" list.
Device: /dev/csmi0,0, opened

Device: /dev/csmi0,0, found in smartd database: Toshiba 2.5" HDD MK..61GSY[N]
Device: /dev/csmi0,0, is SMART capable. Adding to "monitor" list.
Device: /dev/csmi0,1, opened
Device: /dev/csmi0,1, packet devices [this device CD/DVD] not SMART capable
Unable to register ATA device /dev/csmi0,1 at line 3 of file C:/Program Files/smartmontools for Windows/bin/smartd.conf
Monitoring 2 ATA and 0 SCSI devices
Device: /dev/sda, opened ATA device
Device: /dev/csmi0,0, opened ATA device
Started with '-q onecheck' option. All devices sucessfully checked once.
smartd is exiting (exit status 0)

The disk controller used is a Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller with driver 8.2.0.1001
For the sake of tests i've tried the same on an newer Intel controller (Intel 5 series), and smartd does also double list my disks.

For now i can just put /dev/sda instead of DEVICESCAN into smartd.conf to quick fix that behavior but it would be maybe nice to have a fix for mass installs.

Cheers.
