Christian,

Thank you for responding to my question.

The docking station is made by SIIG, it's exact title is "SuperSpeed USB to SATA 3Gb/s Dual Docking".

I should contact their tech support people for this and relate your information to them?

I did the following commands to both drives, same docking station: /usr/sbin/smartctl -a -d sat /dev/sdb and /usr/sbin/smartctl -a -d sat /dev/sdc. I'm including both files below. Notice that the front part of each report is the same? Same serial number?

Regards and again THANK you for responding,

George...

The SMART RETURN STATUS command returned LBA_MID/HIGH register values
which do not make any sense. Correct values would be:
LM=0x4f, LH=0xc2 -> SMART PASSED
LM=0xf4, LH=0x22 -> SMART FAILED

This is usually a problem of the ATA pass-through functions from the
driver/firmware of the controller (which?) between smartctl and the drive.

If possible, connect the drive to another controller or machine and
repeat the test.

This means the smartctl did a SMART VALUE > THRESHOLD check instead and
found no problems.

Regards,
Christian
