There are two devices that are seen as one RAID 1. If I write something on the device under Linux, I can read that from a Mac just as well, and vice versa. And I don't have the array corrupted which would happed if I'd be writing only to one of the drives. I can't remove drives from it because they're simply stuck, so I can't see their SMART any other way. Only I if knew which switch to use: the manual didn't shed any light on this.
