Hello Terry,
I have the exact same disk:
Vendor: Pliant
Product: LB206M
Revision: D323
and the same problem: when I run smartctl -A on the disk (under Solaris),
the number of "Elements in grown defect list" is reported as 0, but when I
run it with "-r ioctl", then I can see the details:
...
[read defect list(12): b7 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 08 00 00 ]
status=2: sense_key=1 asc=1c ascq=0
defect list format 6 unknown
Elements in grown defect list: 0
...
and the kernel reports in the log:
Sep 26 13:01:33 hostname scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING:
/pci@0,0/pci1002,5a18@4/pci1028,1f1e@0/iport@ff/disk@w5001e8200276e21a,0 (sd27):
Sep 26 13:01:33 hostname Error for Command: <undecoded cmd 0xb7>

(defect list not found), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x0
I guess this, as being an SSD, doesn't report support the GLIST (grown
defects list) command. Is there a way in smartcl to disable reading this
parameter while still reading all the "-a" parameters?
Best regards,
