This means the drive is detected as an SCSI/SAS device.

Try "smartctl -d sat ..." or "-d ata".

No. A drive database entry would never fix a false device type 
detection. It only affects names and print format of ATA SMART 
attributes (and enables firmware bug workarounds in few cases). The 
above entry only provides the Model Family info.
