Hi smartmontools mailing list.

I have, so far unsuccessfully, tried to read smart data from a hard
drive of mine sticking inside a Sharkoon Quickport Duo USB 3.0
(http://en.sharkoon.com/product/1686/10066). According to Sharkoon, this
thing comes with a JMicron JMS551, which is listed in my device manager
(running Windows 10) as 152d 0561, a USB ID which is not yet listed on
Mr. Gowdy's USB ID repository. The repo's down right now, and I was
unsuccessful in registering an account at an earlier point in time, so I
could not add it up until now.

Things I've tried so far:
[1] smartctl -a /dev/sdc
[2] smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sdc
[3] smartctl -d ata -s on -a /dev/sdc
[4] smartctl -d usbjmicron -a /dev/sdc
     smartctl -d usbjmicron,0 -a /dev/sdc
     smartctl -d usbjmicron,1 -a /dev/sdc

Results:
[1] C:\Users\Alex>smartctl -a /dev/sdc
smartctl 6.4 2015-06-04 r4109 [x86_64-w64-mingw32-win8] (sf-6.4-1)

The drive itself works perfectly fine and also reports smart values
correctly when hooked directly to the mainboard.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If you need any more information from
me, do tell!

Regards,
Alex
