Hello, I use to fix some current pending sectors by running a smart extended test to get the LBA of the first bad sector, and then run a script like hdparm --write-sector. I have some weird results here with an old velociraptor disk: smartctl 5.42 2011-10-20 r3458 [x86_64-linux-2.6.18-371.1.2.el5] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net <http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net> === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: WDC WD740HLFS-01G6U1 Serial Number: WD-WXE0C79S9428 LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 05738a981 Firmware Version: 04.04V02 User Capacity: 74 355 769 344 bytes [74,3 GB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Fri Apr 15 18:34:14 2016 CEST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. If Selective self-test is pending on power-up, resume after 0 minute delay. First of all I know this is some archeology, as smartmontools v5.42 is stoneage, but I don't have anything better on CentOS 5 (yes, an old system still in production). Well, the problem seems that there are 753 current pending sectors, but the extended test succeeds. Is that a normal behavior ? Honestly it is the first time since I use smartmontools since I see this kind of behavior. Also, badblocks command doesn't find bad blocks either. Is there a way to get a list of the bad sectors ?
