smartd data database

Hello $list,

I'm curious about the following things:
1) how often does smartd query smartctl data of the drives
2) does smartd store the data somewhere ?

The reason for q2 is that I'd like to graph them using opentsdb and I guess it would be more useful and simple to just use the data smartd uses rather than re-querying all the drives with my own script ( since the data is already queried from time to time by smartd ).
If not, does this sound like a good feature to you ? How would you go about this ?
