Maybe it's time we talk about kernel 2.6.x then. Question, is it really ready for production? I mean, coming from us here who have run WOLK in production, is there really a compelling reason now to consider moving to 2.6, or 2.6-WOLK? It would be nice if those who have tried 2.6 can give their observations on how 2.6.x runs in comparison to 2.4-WOLK. When you get the opportunity, please take a look at the gentoo-dev-sources (Gentoo's "official" flavour of 2.6). You can get the latest patch (as of the time of writing) here, which applies to vanilla: > > ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/genpatches-2.6-3.24.tar.bz2 > > There is a nice, descriptive README included but I'll list the names of the contained patches here: > > Included: > 120_e1000_interrupt-assertion-revert.patch > 125_x86_64_2.6.3-1.patch > 125a_x86_64_nvidia_noapic.patch > 200_r8169-8110S-12172003.patch > 201_prism54_wlan_01242004.patch > 202_bcm5700_broadcom_gigabit_drvr_11272003.patch > 227_alsa_cvs_20040220_2.6.3.patch > 300_squashfs-1.3r3.patch > 400_bootsplash-3.1.3-2.6.3-r5.patch > 401_supermount-2.0.4.patch > 403_speakup_accessibility.patch > 405_lirc_infrared-2.6.2_rc1-01242004.patch > 410_libata_enable_sil.patch > 415_gcloop-2.6-20040118.patch > 420_adaptec_dpt_i2o.patch > 425_am6-2.6.3.patch > 451_powernow_k8_buggy_bios.patch > 452_k8_cardbus_io.patch > 460_amd64_dvb_saa7146.patch > > Todo: > 420_evms-extrapatches-2.2.1.patch > > I realise that most of this is already in, but a few are not (unless implied by -mm) and I thought that perhaps they might be useful. It is probably a good patchset to keep an eye on in terms of supporting "tricky" hardware. > > Regards, > > Kerin Francis Millar > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF.Net is sponsored by: Speed Start Your Linux Apps Now. > Build and deploy apps & Web services for Linux with > a free DVD software kit from IBM.
