Recall that a symbol has a name and a home package, can be exported from that home and imported into other packages. Recall as well that when you define package, you specify which packages it should use. Without seeing your code, I'd guess that you have something like: (defpackage #:common-graphers-user ...) instead of (defpackage #:common-graphers-user (:use #:common-lisp ...) ...) If you define a package without using the Common-Lisp package, then that new package won't have easy access to the Common-Lisp symbols. It would help diagnose the problem is you included more of the code that you're trying to load (at least the package definitions).
