hi paul,

although this is not an answer to your question, i
thought i'd share what i've discovered.

after running my own server for several years on a
fixed ip on first an isdn, then on a dsl line, i've
switched to a virtual server hosted by
openhosting.com. so far, i've been very happy with
this arrangement.

prices start at $20/month which is more than a fixed
ip from the phone company, but i don't have the
headaches of running my own production server.
openhosting runs fedora (redhat) linux and i'm running
cmucl 18e with cl-http 70-190a.

i quickly surveyed several vendors running virtual
servers before deciding on openhosting.com, and you
may find another vendor more suited to your needs.
however, if you decide to use openhosting, please tell
them i referred you.

check out my website at http://zevo.ws if you'd like
to see what the entry level performance looks like.

thanks.

conrad
