Actually, he did not. He said he doesn't remember the reasons. I
approached him after his presentation and told him that it's most
probably because of section 7 of the GPL, which explicitly prohibits
distribution of code covered by patent restrictions.

Incidentally, this is a very serious problem with the GPL, which most
people are not aware of (google for my postings in c.l.l explaining it
in more detail if you're interested). It could also be the reason why
many companies choose to compose their own open-source license.
