I don't use ubuntu or the common-lisp-controller, but
you could start lisp and:

  CL-USER> (find-package "ASDF")
  #<The ASDF package, 178/192 internal, 66/66 external>
  
  CL-USER> asdf:*central-registry*
  (#P"/home/craigl/web-co/production/systems/" *DEFAULT-PATHNAME-DEFAULTS*)

The first means that the asdf package is installed,
and the second points to a list of directories where
asdf looks for the symbolic links to the *.asd files.
