Without an explicit license (e.g. only copyright CMU) we aren't even
technically allowed to distribute it, much less update it.

Maybe there is an option for that in LaTeX2HTML?

OK.  I was under the impression the manual was under the same terms as
the source code - sorry about that!  And I try not to make legal
assumptions... arrgh.

This is speculative Brad, so it might be rather premature to ask, but
how would CMU feel about combining (at least some part of) the Garnet
manual with the source code itself into a literate programming style
project?  That's a can of worms from a legal standpoint since the
resulting document contains both source code and documentation, and I'm
glad I didn't step in the cow pie (thanks Robert!).  The reason I like
this approach is mostly due to the Axiom project, which is striving to
take Knuth's idea of programs as documents and use it to create
mathematical code that will be fully understandable into the remote
future.  While I can't claim to have done much of merit yet in this
department, I'm very much interested and was hoping Garnet, CLX,
cl-typesetting, and other key pieces of technology might also be
converted into literate programming documents and used to build a high
quality GUI enviornment for Axiom.  Of course literate programming
wouldn't be really necessary for such a thing, but it would be nice
:-).

Anyway, my apologies again for making assumptions I shouldn't have.=20
One other question - would it be acceptable to convert the postscript
files into pdf and post those on the sourceforge page?  (once I get to
a computer that can actually DO that, of course...)  They are easier
for some folks to read and can be searched with a Find command,
something I have found quite helpful on my own machine.
