Thanks to Thomas Burdick (see below), I found out that my problem lies with using cores that were made with Ilisp loaded (specfically, with CMUCL and Garnet). Although I don't know yet why this is the case, so far the core images of the same system, but without Ilisp loaded, seem to work fine. Lyle >You can't dump a core with ILISP loaded.
