UTF-8/unicode support

Hi Leon,

Read your last message on line (little problem with that message in KMail).

Recompiled from CVS and Lush works fine so far.

With respect to helptool not coming up, it operates properly in the CVS version.
Problem may due to my having changed something in my older version (fonts, 
documentation). I'll try those changes in the CVS version.

You mentioned that a number of string functions are needed for Unicode (UTF-8), 
this is still the case I suspect. Are you able to enumerate which operations are 
needed so I can look into it?
