There are lots of nice things in GSL that makes
it a tempting requirement for some future version
of Lush. But it seems like we cannot copy code from
GSL or make it a build requirement since it is released
under GPLv3 and Lush is released under LGPLv2.1:
http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html#AllCompatibility

My understanding is that our use of GSL is only
permitted if Lush were re-released under GPLv3.
(Ironically, Lush is listed on the GSL info page,
http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/ as an application using GSL.)
