Lush Demos fail

I've installed Lush under the Gentoo linux distribution, see

http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/about.xml

for details of the ebuild system.  None of the graphical demos work,
they all complain:

*** module-load : dld/bfd error
*** File in wrong format


Any ideas what is wrong?
