Yes.  CTRL-D already does something else.

This is not going to happen.  The keycodes for backspace and DEL are 
obtained from terminfo.  I double-checked, and Cone processes those 
keycodes correctly.  If your DEL and backspace are not working it means your 
terminfo is either wrong, or your TERM is not set to the right terminfo 
record.

I note that gnome-terminal, for example, has configuration settings for 
which keycodes it emits for DEL and backspace keys.  If you're using 
gnome-terminal, your profile settings are not set correctly.
