Cone does not mark messages as read. It is the IMAP server's responsibility 
to mark messages as read, and Cone reflects the message status, as reported 
by the IMAP server.

This appears to be a bug in Gmail's IMAP implementation. Gmail's IMAP server 
does not mark messages as read, after their content is downloaded by the 
client using the FETCH (BODY[]) command. Report this problem to Google, and 
advise them to review the description of FETCH (BODY[]) and FETCH 
(BODY.PEEK[]) IMAP commands.
