The problem with adding items such as this is the bloat in the plain amount of text for the documentation. It has already been noted that the docs are "very extensive"; it wasn't quite clear if there was an implied "excessively" there.

I think what would be preferable would be some form of side-note. In traditional typography this would be a footnote. Possibly for html and pdf a hyperlink would serve; possibly for some formats a popup or hover.

However, the current documentation tooling an pipeline does not support such (cf. #2881 ( https://code.exim.org/exim/exim/issues/2881 ) ). At least one developer has expressed an interest in a wholesale retooling to a "more modern" pipeline, though has not yet found time to embark on that (probably rather large) effort.

I think this item should wait until better tooling is available.
