What version of Exim/Exiscan are you using?  There is a bug in the older
version of exiscan (I know it was a problem in version 21) that will 
cause timeout problems with version 0.80 of clamd.  If that is the case, 
you can upgrade to the latest Exim/Exiscan combo or use 0.75.1 of clamd 
(which will make you vulnerable to some viruses that 0.80 catches).
