To enable it, you need to set WITH_OLD_DEMIME=yes in the Makefile and rebuild. Could this be the error you're encountering? There has been some discussion of late on the Exim list in regards to this decision, mostly from the standpoint of ClamAV's ability to do its own MIME decoding.
